I hope you enjoyed a wonderful week away from school and are ready to get back into the swing of things…there’s a lot of great thinking and learning on the way!
Many thanks to everyone who brought goodies for our Valentine’s party before the break. We had a terrific little celebration!
This week is Random Acts of Kindness week at our school! We will be having an assembly on Monday morning to learn more about what we will be doing this week at MMH. Scholars, you received the name of one classmate that you are planning to commit one Conscious Act of Kindness for this week. Please remember, if you choose to purchase a small treat for your classmate, it must be less than $5. Have fun planning kind gestures and fun things for your classmates!
Wednesday is Pink Shirt Day! Not sure what that means? Watch the following video clip! …and wear a pink shirt on Wednesday to support the cause!
Pink Shirt Day
Wednesday is also Hot Lunch day if you’ve ordered!
This week we will be launching our third Word Power lesson. Students will be receiving their assignments on Monday, which will be due on Thursday.
Readers, get ready for another reading challenge week! We will set our reading goals on Monday and then document our minutes and pages read in an attempt to meet our goals by next week! Good luck!
I’m very excited to return to our novel, Underground to Canada, this week! After modelling a review of reading comprehension strategies on Tuesday, students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities later in the week!
This week will see a review of a well-liked multiplication strategy we learned before the break using expanded notation and the grid/table method, but hold on to your socks, grade fives, because this week I’m going to show you two more strategies you may like even better!
We are continuing to explore the Canadian Shield Region of Canada this week with some scavenger hunting through the region! I can’t wait to see what we ‘dig up’!
Students may wish to visit a couple clips about this region:

This week we will begin our study of ‘les gouters sains’ (healthy foods/snacks) with some new vocabulary and a game!
On Monday of this week, we will gather all of our grade five students together to celebrate successes, review expectations of students at this point in our year and to look ahead at our final term that is quickly approaching. We will discuss our upcoming events and field trips including the curling lessons that will be taking place later in March. A letter went home before the break detailing the lesson dates and times and asking for volunteer drivers and on-ice help. Parents: if you haven’t received the note, please email Ms. B. or have your scholar take home a second note.
