Week of November 27-December 1

Welcome to a new week and a new term!

Thank you!

to each of the parents and students who took the time to come out for the parent-student-teacher conferences last week! I always appreciate the opportunity to spend time together reflecting on our common goal: supporting the growth of the wonderful community of learners in our classroom!

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate our group on the effort they are putting forth to show that they are growing. I commented several times last week, ‘We must be in term 2 now!’ as I observed great things happening all week long! We have a lot of work to do in grade five to get ready for the challenges of middle school (and beyond) and every single student is trying hard and working to demonstrate that they are moving in a positive way to show increased responsibility and ownership of learning. Keep at it, crew, I’m proud of you!

Sneak Peek at the Week:

It’s Crazy Hair Day on Thursday! We also have a Spirit Assembly taking place in our gymnasium beginning at 10:20 am. Parents are always welcome to join us!

Christmas Art Project: Hand-Stitched Stockings

We begin stitching this Friday! Any students not having felt at school yet are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. If getting felt is not possible, please come see me as I can help out!

Language Arts:

Wrapping up our focus on Frequently Misspelled Words, this week will see us studying our final list: 3b (last half of the last column). Students will have the opportunity to explore, analyze and practise these words in class on Monday and will write their quiz Thursday.

We will continue working on our fictional story writing this week! Students are using trouble stories, fictionalizing some piece (character, plot, or setting), and adding description in order to make it a little more interesting!

Students will do a ‘Whole Numbers’ unit review which we will take a close look at on Wednesday before our test on Thursday. Students: to show you’ve read the blog, present Ms. B. with a note before announcements on Monday morning stating on which day our Math assessment will take place. 😊

What’s up next? Geometry!

Social Studies:

This week we will wrap up our scavenger hunts, read an Atlantic Region alphabet and take a trip to Cape Breton Island! This will lead us to the end of this region’s focus. Students can look forward to some studying and preparation for an assessment next week!

Breezy has been sent off to travel all over our great country! Students can look forward to postcards arriving over the next few weeks!

We plan to learn and review ‘les matieres scolaires’ this week with a game and try our hand at a French crossword puzzle. The clues are all in French, so it will be up to us to use our great detective skills to decipher them! We will also do ‘les mathematiques en francais’! Youpi!

Have a wonderful week!
